Mauritius preamble

We are on an idyllic holiday in Mauritius.

It all started with Lala and Papou simultaneously deciding they wanted to take the whole Escoffier/Robarts family skiing:  Papou wanted to do so for Tonton Milou's 30th last year but Tonton Milou had no leave left, and Lala wanted to do so this year, so they decided to join forces (after a brief moment of grumpiness that they had stolen each other's idea).  But then Grandma and Granddad decided to rent some flats in Flaine for a big Robarts skiing holiday in February, so (after another brief moment of grumpiness) Lala suggested a beach holiday instead, and here we are.  We've really lucked out on the holiday front this year because after Flaine and Mauritius there will also be Greece in August to celebrate Daisy's 40th and Grandma's 70th birthdays.

We had initially suggested Morocco but Lala wanted a warm, tropical sea.  The sea is definitely warm and tropical, but sadly Lala is not with us to appreciate it.  She broke her ankle on a skiing holiday of her own, had some rather major surgery to put it all back in place, and is now wheelchair-bound for the next few weeks.  Tragic given that this whole trip to Mauritius happened largely at her instigation and that she is paying for half of it!  She was nonetheless adamant that we should not cancel, so here we are, very grateful and having a blast.

We are here for a full 14 days, and Marc and Marion were with us for the first week.  When they thought it was going to be a skiing trip they had initially said they didn't have enough holiday left this year either (they are quite the jet-setters, and their friends keep getting married in different parts of the world).  But when they found out we'd decided to come to Mauritius instead, they found 4 days' leave to tag onto Easter!
